Therefore let us also intercede for those who are involved in some transgression, so that graciousness and humility may be given to them, enabling them to yield not to us but to the will of God. In this way their remembrance before God and the saints, with compassion, will be fruitful and complete.
Let us accept discipline, beloved, at which no one should be offended. The admonition we give one another is good and exceedingly beneficial, for it joins us to the will of God.
For the holy word says: “The Lord disciplined me with discipline, but he did not hand me over to death.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves and scourges every son whom he receives.”
“For,” it says, “a righteous person will discipline me with mercy and correct me, but let not the oil of sinners anoint my head.”
And again it says: “Blessed is the person whom the Lord has corrected; do not reject the admonition of the Almighty. For he causes pain, and again he restores;
he struck, and his hands healed.
Six times he will deliver you from troubles, and in the seventh evil will not touch you.
In famine he will rescue you from death, and in war he will free you from the hand of iron.
He will hide you from the scourge of the tongue, and you will not fear when evils approach.
You will laugh at the unjust and lawless, and you will not be afraid of wild beasts,
for wild beasts will be at peace with you.
Then you will know that your household will be at peace, and the dwelling of your tent will not fail.
You will know that your offspring will be many and your children like all the vegetation of the field.
You will come to the grave like ripe grain harvested in its season, or like a heap from the threshing floor gathered at the proper time.”
You see, beloved, how great a protection there is for those disciplined by the Master. For because he is a good Father, he disciplines us so that we may receive mercy through his holy discipline.
