Since, then, we are the portion of the Holy One, let us do everything that belongs to holiness, fleeing slander, foul and impure unions, drunkenness, disorderly innovations, detestable desires, hateful adultery, and abhorrent pride.
For it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Therefore let us cling to those to whom grace has been given by God. Let us put on harmony, being humble-minded and self-controlled, keeping ourselves far from every whispering and slander, and being justified by deeds, not by words.
For it says: “The one who speaks much will also hear much in reply; or does the eloquent person think that he is righteous?
Blessed is one born of woman, short-lived. Do not be excessive in words.”
Let our praise be in God and not come from ourselves, for God hates those who praise themselves.
Let testimony to our good conduct be given by others, as it was given to our righteous fathers.
Insolence, self-will, and reckless boldness belong to those cursed by God; graciousness, humility, and gentleness belong to those blessed by God.
