The apostles received the gospel for us from the Lord Jesus Christ; Jesus the Christ was sent out from God.
Christ, therefore, is from God, and the apostles are from Christ. Both things, then, took place in proper order by the will of God.
Having received their instructions, having been fully assured through the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and having been confirmed in the word of God, they went out with the full assurance of the Holy Spirit, proclaiming the good news that the kingdom of God was about to come.
Preaching throughout countries and cities, they appointed their firstfruits, after testing them by the Spirit, as bishops and deacons for those who were going to believe.
And this was not something new, for long before this it had been written concerning bishops and deacons. For Scripture says somewhere: “I will appoint their bishops in righteousness and their deacons in faith.”
