Foolish, senseless, stupid, and uninstructed people mock and ridicule us, wishing to exalt themselves in their own thoughts.
For what can a mortal do? Or what strength does one born from the earth possess?
For it is written: “There was no form before my eyes, but only a breeze, and I heard a voice:
What then? Can a mortal be pure before the Lord, or can a man be blameless in his works, if God does not trust his servants and has perceived something crooked in his angels?
Even heaven is not pure before him. How much less those who dwell in houses of clay, from which we ourselves are made of that same clay! He struck them like a moth, and from morning to evening they are no more. Because they were unable to help themselves, they perished.
He breathed upon them, and they died because they had no wisdom.
Call out, then, and see whether anyone will answer you, or whether you will see any of the holy angels. For anger destroys a fool, and jealousy puts the one who has gone astray to death.
I have seen fools taking root, but immediately their dwelling was consumed.
May their children be far from salvation. May they be crushed at the gates of those weaker than themselves, with no one to deliver them. For what was prepared for them the righteous will eat, and they themselves will not be rescued from evils.”
