Let us also become imitators of those who went about in goatskins and sheepskins, proclaiming the coming of Christ. We mean Elijah and Elisha, and also Ezekiel and the prophets, together with those who were commended by testimony.
Abraham received great testimony and was called the friend of God, yet as he fixed his gaze on the glory of God in humility he said, “But I am earth and ashes.”
And concerning Job it is also written this way: “Job was righteous and blameless, truthful, reverent toward God, and kept away from every evil.”
Yet he accuses himself, saying, “No one is clean from defilement, even if his life lasts only one day.”
Moses was called “faithful in all his house,” and through his ministry God judged Egypt by their plagues and torments. Yet although Moses was greatly glorified, he did not speak boastfully. Instead, when a divine message was given to him from the bush, he said, “Who am I, that you should send me?” and, “I am weak in speech and slow of tongue.”
And again he says, “But I am steam from a pot.”
