Therefore let us cling to those who make peace with godliness, not to those who desire peace hypocritically.
For it says somewhere: “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.”
And again: “With their mouth they bless, but in their heart they curse.”
And again it says: “They loved him with their mouth and lied to him with their tongue, but their heart was not upright with him, nor were they faithful to his covenant.”
Therefore, “Let the deceitful lips be struck speechless, those that speak lawlessness against the righteous.” And again: “May the Lord destroy every deceitful lip and the tongue that speaks boastfully, those who say, ‘We will magnify our tongue; our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?’”
“Because of the misery of the poor and the groaning of the needy, now I will arise, says the Lord. I will place him in safety;
I will speak boldly concerning him.”
