Because of faith and hospitality Rahab the prostitute was saved.
For when spies were sent by Joshua son of Nun into Jericho, the king of the land learned that they had come to spy out their country, and he sent men to seize them so that, once captured, they might be put to death.
So the hospitable Rahab received them and hid them in the upper room beneath stalks of flax.
When the king's men came to her and said, “The spies of our land came to you. Bring them out, for this is what the king commands,” she answered, “The men you are looking for did come to me, but they immediately left and are going on their way,” pointing them in the opposite direction.
Then she said to the men, “I know for certain that the Lord God is handing this land over to you, for fear and dread of you have fallen upon those who live in it. So when it happens that you take the land, save me and my father's household.”
And they said to her, “It will be as you have said to us. So when you know that we are approaching, gather all your people under your roof, and they will be saved. But whoever is found outside the house will perish.”
They also gave her a sign: she was to hang a scarlet cord from her house, making it clear that through the blood of the Lord there will be redemption for all who believe and hope in God.
You see, beloved, that in this woman there was not only faith but also prophecy.
