“Rejoice, barren woman who does not bear; break forth and cry out, you who are not in labor, for the children of the deserted woman are more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband.” When He said, “Rejoice, barren woman who does not bear,” He meant us, for our Church was barren before children were given to her.
And when He said, “Cry out, you who are not in labor,” He meant that we should offer our prayers sincerely to God and not grow weary like women in labor.
And when He said, “For the children of the deserted woman are more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband,” He meant that our people had seemed to be deserted by God. But now that we have believed, we have become more numerous than those who seemed to have God.
And another Scripture also says, “I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
This means that those who are perishing must be saved.
For what is great and wonderful is not to strengthen those who are standing, but those who are falling.
In the same way, Christ willed to save those who were perishing, and He saved many when He came and called us as we were already perishing.
