Hear what was said by the prophetic Spirit about the fact that the land of the Jews was going to be laid waste. The words were spoken as from the person of peoples marveling at what had happened:
“Zion has become a wilderness; Jerusalem has become like a wilderness. The house, our holy place and glory, which our fathers blessed, has become accursed and burned with fire, and all its glorious things have fallen. Yet at these things you held back and remained silent and humbled us greatly.”
You are convinced that Jerusalem was laid waste just as had been foretold. And concerning its desolation and the fact that none of them would be permitted to live there, it was said through the prophet Isaiah: “Their land is desolate; before their eyes their enemies shall consume it, and none of them shall live in it.”
You know very well that it is guarded by you so that no one among them may be there, and that death has been decreed against a Jew who is caught entering it.
