In His undivided love, the God of all, wishing to visit our coldness and condition, raised up Moses, teacher of the Law, to give us the Law in writing. He founded for us the house of truth, which is the catholic Church that He created, because God wishes to bring us back to the first beginning. And because Moses built as a forerunner, we need not fear to say that this lawgiver was one of the forerunners, and that the Spirit who was with Moses was the same Spirit who worked in the choir of the saints; and they all prayed concerning the Only-begotten Son of God. John likewise was one of the forerunners. Therefore the Law and the Prophets were until John; the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent seize it.

Those who were borne by the Spirit foresaw that no creature could heal that very great wound except God’s blessed Only-begotten, whom He appointed for the salvation of the whole world and who is the great Physician able, in His goodness, to heal the immense wound. The Father of creatures did not spare the Only-begotten for our sake, but handed Him over for the salvation of us all, for our sins and iniquities. He humbled Himself, and by His wound we have all been healed. By the word of His power He gathered us from every region, from one end of the earth to the other end of the world, raised our hearts from the earth, and taught us that we are members of one another.
