Section 75

“And concerning the cross, which do you think is better: to endure it when wicked people plot against you, without fearing death however it may come—or to chatter about the wanderings of Osiris and Isis, the plots of Typhon, the flight of Cronus, his devouring of his children, and his assault upon his father? For this is the wisdom you present.

“If you mock the cross, why do you not also marvel at the resurrection? The same men who wrote about one also told us about the other.

“And when you mention the cross, why do you remain silent about the dead who were raised, the blind who received sight, the paralyzed who were healed, the lepers who were cleansed, the walking upon the sea, and all the other signs and wonders? These demonstrate that Christ is not merely a human being but God.

“It seems to me that you do yourselves a great injustice and have not read our Scriptures carefully. Read them and see that the deeds of Christ demonstrate him to be God who came upon earth for the salvation of humanity.
