A few days later, while Antony was working—for he took care to work diligently—someone stood at the door and pulled at the woven material he was making. Antony used to weave baskets and give them to visitors in return for what they brought him.

He rose and saw a creature shaped like a man down to the thighs but with the legs and feet of a donkey. Antony simply made the sign of the cross over himself and said, “I am a servant of Christ. If you have been sent against me, here I am.”

The creature and the evil spirits with it fled so rapidly that it fell and died. The death of the creature signified the fall of the demons. They had tried in every possible way to drive Antony out of the desert, but they were unable to do so.
