Section 48

After Antony had withdrawn, he determined that for a certain period he would neither come out himself nor admit anyone to him. But a military officer named Martinian came and disturbed his solitude because his daughter was afflicted by an evil spirit.

Martinian remained a long time knocking on the door and begging Antony to come out and pray to God for his child. Antony would not open the door. Instead, he looked down from above and said: “Man, why are you crying out to me? I am a human being just as you are. But if you believe in Christ whom I serve, go, and according to your faith pray to God, and it will happen.”

The man immediately left, believing and calling upon Christ, and he received his daughter back cleansed from the demon.

The Lord also did many other things through Antony—the Lord who says, “Ask, and it will be given to you.” Many sufferers, when Antony would not open his door, slept outside his cell and were healed through their own faith and sincere prayers.
