All the people rejoiced when they heard such a man condemn the heresy that opposed Christ. The entire city gathered to see Antony.
Greeks and even those who were called their priests came into the church saying, “We ask to see the man of God,” for this was the name everyone used for him.
There also the Lord freed many people from demons and healed those who had lost their reason. Many Greeks asked only to touch the old man, believing that they would receive some benefit.
Certainly, during those few days as many people became Christians as one might ordinarily see converted in an entire year.
Some people thought the crowds must be disturbing Antony and therefore tried to keep everyone away from him. But Antony calmly said that the people were no more numerous than the demons against whom he struggled on the mountain.
