Later, on another occasion, Antony came down to the outer cells and was asked to board a boat and pray with the monks. He alone perceived an extremely unpleasant odor.

Those on board said that the smell came from the fish and preserved meat in the boat, but Antony said that the odor was different.

While he was still speaking, a young man who had an evil spirit and had hidden himself in the boat suddenly cried out. Antony rebuked the demon in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and it left the young man, who was restored to health.

Then everyone understood that the foul odor had come from the demon.
