On another occasion Archelaus the count found Antony at the outer mountain and asked him simply to pray for Polycratia of Laodicea, an excellent Christian young woman. Because she had practiced ascetic discipline too severely, she suffered terribly in her stomach and side and was weak throughout her body.
Antony prayed for her, and the count wrote down the day on which the prayer was offered. When he returned to Laodicea, he found the young woman restored to health. He asked when and on what day she had been relieved of her illness. Then he brought out the paper on which he had recorded the time of Antony’s prayer and read it aloud.
Everyone marveled when they realized that the Lord had relieved her suffering at the very time when Antony was praying and calling upon the Savior’s goodness on her behalf.
