On one occasion Antony had to cross the Arsenoite canal while visiting the brothers. The canal was full of crocodiles. He simply prayed, entered the water, and crossed safely together with everyone who was with him.
After returning to his cell, he resumed the same noble and strenuous ascetic labors. Through frequent conversation he increased the zeal of those who were already monks and awakened in many others a love for the ascetic life. His words quickly drew more people, cells multiplied, and he guided them all like a father.
