My child, flee from every evil thing and from everything resembling it.
Do not be prone to anger, for anger leads to murder. Do not be jealous, quarrelsome, or hot-tempered, for murders arise from all these things.
My child, do not be lustful, for lust leads to sexual immorality. Do not speak obscenely or have roving eyes, for all these things give rise to adulteries.
My child, do not interpret omens, since this leads to idolatry. Do not be an enchanter, an astrologer, or one who performs ritual purifications, and do not even desire to see such things, for idolatry arises from all of them.
My child, do not be a liar, since lying leads to theft. Do not be a lover of money or of empty glory, for thefts arise from all these things.
My child, do not be a grumbler, since grumbling leads to blasphemy. Do not be self-willed or evil-minded, for blasphemies arise from all these things.
Instead, be meek, for the meek shall inherit the earth.
Be patient, merciful, guileless, quiet, and good, always trembling at the words you have heard.
You shall not exalt yourself or let your soul become presumptuous. Your soul shall not cling to the proud, but you shall associate with the righteous and humble.
Accept the things that happen to you as good, knowing that nothing happens apart from God.
