He said to me, “Remove double-mindedness from yourself, and never be double-minded about asking anything from God, saying within yourself, ‘How can I ask anything from the Lord and receive it after sinning so greatly against Him?’ Do not reason this way. Instead, turn to the Lord with your whole heart and ask Him without hesitation, and you will know His great compassion, because He will certainly not abandon you but will fulfill the request of your soul. For God is not like people who hold grudges. He does not hold a grudge, but has compassion on His creation. Therefore cleanse your heart from all the vanities of this age and from the things already mentioned to you, and ask from the Lord. You will receive everything and will not be deprived in any of your requests if you ask the Lord without hesitation. But if you hesitate in your heart, you will receive none of your requests. Those who hesitate toward God are the double-minded, and they obtain none of their requests. But those who are complete in faith ask for everything while trusting in the Lord, and they receive because they ask without hesitation and without any double-mindedness. For every double-minded person, unless he repents, will be saved only with difficulty. Cleanse your heart, therefore, from double-mindedness. Put on faith, because it is strong, and trust God that you will receive all the requests you make. And if, after asking the Lord for something, you receive your request more slowly, do not become double-minded because you did not immediately receive the request of your soul. You receive your request more slowly because of some trial or some transgression of which you are unaware. Therefore do not stop asking for the request of your soul, and you will receive it. But if you grow weary and become double-minded while asking, blame yourself and not the One who gives to you. Watch out for this double-mindedness, for it is evil and senseless and uproots many from the faith, even people who are very faithful and strong. Indeed, this double-mindedness is a daughter of the devil and acts very wickedly against the servants of God. Therefore despise double-mindedness and master it in every matter by clothing yourself with faith, which is strong and powerful. For faith promises all things and brings all things to completion, while double-mindedness, because it does not trust itself, fails in every work it undertakes. You see, then,” he said, “that faith is from above, from the Lord, and has great power, while double-mindedness is an earthly spirit from the devil and has no power. Serve, therefore, the faith that has power, and keep away from double-mindedness, which has no power, and you will live to God; and all who think this way will live to God.”
