He said to me, “Hold to simplicity and become guileless, and you will be like little children who do not know the wickedness that destroys human life. First, speak evil of no one, and do not enjoy listening to someone who speaks evil of others. Otherwise you too, as the listener, will be guilty of the speaker’s sin if you believe the slander you hear. For by believing it, you too will have something against your brother. In this way you will be guilty of the speaker’s sin. Slander is evil. It is a restless demon, never at peace but always dwelling among divisions. Keep away from it, therefore, and you will always have well-being with everyone. Put on Reverence, in which there is no evil stumbling block, but everything is smooth and joyful. Do good, and from the labor God gives you, give simply to everyone in need, without hesitating over whom you should give to and whom you should not. Give to everyone, for God wants everyone to receive from His own gifts. Those who receive will give an account to God of why they received and for what purpose. Those who receive because they are in distress will not be judged, but those who receive hypocritically will pay the penalty. The giver, then, is guiltless. For he has carried out the ministry he received from the Lord simply, making no distinction about whom to give to or not give to. This ministry, when carried out simply, becomes glorious before God. Therefore the one who serves God in this simple way will live. Keep this commandment, then, as I have told you, so that your repentance and that of your household may be found in simplicity, and that guilelessness may be pure and undefiled.”
