Your prayer has reached the Church in Antioch of Syria, from where, bound in chains most worthy of God, I greet everyone, though I am not worthy to belong there, being the least of them. But according to God's will I was counted worthy, not because I am conscious of deserving it, but by God's grace. I pray that this grace may be given to me to the end, so that through your prayer I may attain God.
Therefore, so that your work may become perfect both on earth and in heaven, it is fitting, for the honor of God, for your Church to appoint an ambassador of God, to rejoice with them over what has happened in Syria: that they are at peace, have recovered their proper stature, and have had their own community restored.
It seemed to me, then, a deed worthy of God for you to send one of your people with a letter, so that he may join them in praising God for the calm that has come to them, and because through your prayer they have already reached harbor. Since you are perfect, let your thoughts also be perfect. For when you desire to do good, God is ready to provide.
