I think what has been said leaves none of the questions concerning the mystery unaddressed, except the discussion of faith, which we will set out briefly in the present work. For those seeking a fuller account, we have already presented it in other works, developing the discussion with as much care and precision as we could. In those works we both engaged our opponents in controversy and examined for ourselves the questions put to us.
For the present discussion, we thought it best to say only as much about faith as the words of the Gospel contain: that the one who is born through spiritual regeneration should know by whom he is born and what kind of living being he becomes. For this kind of birth alone has the power to become whatever it chooses to be.
